Medicare - Mental Health Care Plans
Medicare offers rebates for Australian citizens who visit their Psychologist. You do need however to first visit your General Practitioner (GP) and explain your mental health concerns and obtain a referral. Most G.P.’s will require a longer appointment to discuss this with you. Your GP will give you a referral called a “Mental Health Care Plan”, along with a letter of referral, which entitles you to Medicare Rebates for up to10 sessions in a calendar year (January to December). You will then need to bring these two documents to your first consultation.
A substantial proportion of your consultation fee may be reclaimed through private health funds. Our Practice is registered with all major health insurers. Our office also has HICAPS facilities so if you bring your health fund card we can organise your rebate at the time of the consultation. If you would like to know the amount of rebate prior to your first session you will need to contact your health fund.
